Monte da Moita Nova

Moita Nova
is a riding stable with holiday apartments.

We, Ute Gerhardt, teacher and riding instructor, and Walter Bofenschen, town planner, have lived since 1990 here, on the southwest coast of Portugal , in the protected landscape of the Costa Vicentina Natural Park .
We invite anyone who wants to relax in unspoilt natural surroundings, close to the sea, or who wish to explore an idyllic landscape, riding horseback through the dunes, to come here for your holiday. We have 4 apartments available.

New house

Our House,
is an Alentejan “Monte“ (farmhouse). It comprises one restored original building and one newly built. The old house, of rammed earth, has two self-catering apartments and a communal room, and the new building, constructed using mainly traditional materials, contains a further two apartments and our own private home.

The holiday apartments
(45 sq m / sleep 4 ) consist of a dining/ living room, a double bedroom, bathroom and well equipped kitchen. A terrace at the front allows you to enjoy the morning sun while breakfasting, that at the rear gives you privacy for sunbathing or reading. Equally pleasant in the winter months, as each apartment has a woodburning stove.

Moita Nova - an eco-holiday destination.
The principle of sustainability is an essential part of our holiday concept.

Abundant drinking water comes from our own well. Solar collectors heat domestic water, supplemented by a gas boiler on less sunny days.
Waste water is treated by natural methods and all cleaning materials are eco-friendly. Most of our firewood comes from our own trees.
From 2008 our electricity will come from Solar panels linked to and effectively stored in the national grid.
Our swimming pool is heated by solar energy, and purified without chlorine.
